Realtor.com: Matt Lauer’s Waterfront Home in the Hamptons Resurfaces for $44M

Daily Trade

The former “Today Show” co-host Matt Lauer is once again trying to change the channel on his Hamptons home. His compound in Sag Harbor, NY, has returned to market with a price of $43,995,000.

The property had been listed in June 2019 for $44.8 million, following the former anchor’s divorce from Annette Roque. But that price failed to attract a buyer. The waterfront abode came back on the market in the fall of 2019, with a slightly lowered asking price of $43.99 million.

Lauer, who was let go from the popular morning show in 2017 after accusations of sexual misconduct came to light, is once again trying to offload his estate without budging on the asking price. But with the hot Hamptons housing market, perhaps buyers will now give the spacious spread a second look.

If the spread sells for the asking price, the deal would leave Lauer with a small profit. In 2016, the-then married couple picked up the property for $36.5 million from the actor Richard Gere. The “Pretty Woman” star had assembled three picturesque parcels over the years and created an enviable estate.

Gere had initially asked $65 million for the offering, but ultimately dropped the price to attract a buyer, the New York Post reported.

Set on 6.3 acres, the waterfront residence known as Strongheart Manor offers views over Peconic Bay and Mashomack Preserve, with 300 feet of direct bay frontage, a 240-foot-long private deep-water dock, a sandy beach, pond with bridge, island-inspired teahouse, and two guest cottages.

Although it’s a private and gated estate, the location is just minutes to downtown Sag Harbor.

With a total of 12 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, the offering includes a 6,552-square-foot main house. Built in 1902, the home has been totally renovated and restored, while maintaining its original character and charm.

The floor plan includes six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a screened-in porch that runs the length of the house.

Other interior highlights include numerous entertaining areas, formal living and dining rooms, and multiple fireplaces. An eat-in kitchen has a built-in banquette and opens to an adjacent family room with a fireplace. Upstairs, the master suite opens onto a balcony, and the bathroom features a tub and dual vanities.

Outside, the expansive grounds boast a 60-foot heated waterfront pool, rolling lawns and flowering gardens, specimen trees, an outdoor fireplace pavilion, gym, and a basketball court. Guests can spread out in the two guest cottages on the property. Susan Breitenbach with the Corcoran Group holds the listing.
