HPE says it was hacked by nation-state actor Midnight Blizzard

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. said Wednesday that a suspected nation-state actor hacked its cloud-based email system.

The organization is “believed to be the threat actor Midnight Blizzard, the state-sponsored actor also known as Cozy Bear,” HPE

said in a regulatory filing.

Last week, Microsoft Corp.

said the same group gained entry to its network and accessed “a very small percentage of Microsoft corporate email accounts.”

Both companies determined the cyber-intrusions did not materially impact operations.

“The accessed data is limited to information contained in the users’ mailboxes. We continue to investigate and will make appropriate notifications as required,” an HPE spokesperson said in an email to MarketWatch.
